Dr. Emma Saggers
Although born in the UK, I have lived and worked in the USA for the last ten years, having also previously lived in Dublin, Ireland. I come from a mixed cultural heritage of English, Irish, and Scottish ancestry.
I have a PhD in Literature from the University of Essex, UK and I am currently in my second year of an MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic & Heraldic Studies at Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland. I have taught English Literature and Language, along with History, Humanities, and Communication Studies.
I am particularly passionate about the History and Folklore of the British Isles. I believe that family history is not just about names and dates, but also about the historical context of when people lived. Understanding and getting to know our ancestors is also about understanding and learning the values, customs, and traditions they would have practiced.
Genealogy was once the responsibility of the story-tellers, who could readily tell you the genealogy of a family for generations. Like much of our cultural heritage, we have been encouraged to forget who we are and where we came from in favor of the consumerism of the now. The British Isles has a rich collective social history and important folk traditions worth preserving and sharing for the future.
By preserving our past, we honor our Ancestors, and we create a gift for our Descendants.
I would love to help you navigate finding and understanding your own ancestry, and I look forward to working with you.
